Introduction

The Digital Input Bridge allows you to integrate any device which is able to switch potential-free contacts into your existing Smart network. For example, integration can be as simple as connecting a momentairy (or maintained) switch. You can also turn it into a more advanced setup by connecting your KNX-actor, fire-alarm or UPS to your Digital Input Bridge.

Up to 5 inputs are available on the Digital Input Bridge, each sending it's own unique message to your Smart network. Altering priorities of each message makes it possible to override other active inputs. Additionally, the neutral state (when none of the input are triggered) can be used as a 6th input. The amount of inputs can be extended by placing multiple Digit Input Bridges next to each other and configure them in such way that they are in the same Smart network.

Placement Considerations

The Digital Input Bridge should always be in range of your Smart network, e.g., have a good RF connection to at least one of the Smart devices in your network. The Digital Input Bridge has an optimized internal antenna, optionally an external antenna can be installed. The two main factors influencing the quality of the RF connection are the distance between the Digital Input Bridge and closest Smart device, and obstacles blocking the direct line-of-sight between them. For example, a metal enclosure will result in a worse RF performance as compared to a plastic housing.

Connections and Interfaces

Below is an overview of the Digital Input Bridge and connector layout. After installation, make sure to configure the Digital Input Bridge in such way it integrates with your Smart network. If you need help with configuration, please consult the Digital Input Bridge - Configuration Manual.

12-24VDC

Power input. Connect a suitable power supply (12V - 24V) to these terminals. This power input is reverse-polarity protected.

COM

Common connection for I1-I5. Short-circuit the COM-terminal with any of the I1-I5 terminals to activate the according input.

I1-I5

Input 1-5 terminals. Short-circuit the COM-terminal with any of the I1-I5 terminals to activate the according input.

Status Indicator

In the top right corner of the Digital Output Bridge a status indicator is installed to indicate the current status of the Bridge. The table below shows the possible colors of this indicator with the according status message.

OFFNo power; check power supply voltage
REDInternal failure; contact Bever Innovations
GREENNormal operation
YELLOWConfiguration mode (connected to tablet/phone)

Examples

Rotary Switch

The schematic below shows how to connect a rotary switch to the Digital Input Bridge. With this configuration only one input will be activated at the same time, making the configuration of the Digital Input Bridge easy to understand. Please consult the Digital Input Bridge - Configuration Manual on how to configure the Digital Input Bridge for this example.
